NIU will recognize Veterans Day by holding ceremonies Monday to honor veterans and by recognizing servicemen and women as well as fire and police members at the NIU-Ball State football game Wednesday.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony will begin 11 a.m. Monday at the flag pole on the lawn in front of Altgeld Hall. All are welcome to join. Immediately following the ceremony, the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management will hold a short reception.

Hero Day is planned for Wednesday during the NIU-Ball State football game. All military, fire and police members will be honored during the game. Kickoff is 10 p.m. at Huskie Stadium.

During halftime, DeKalb Fire Department Local 1236 and Sycamore Firefighters 3046 will give away a car to a wounded veteran.

Service members will be recognized during the game and will participate in leading the Huskies out on the field at the start of the second half. Any veterans and members of police and fire units will be able to purchase a game ticket at a discounted cost of $10 by calling 815-753-7225.
