TAILS to host annual silent auction

The TAILS Humane Society is asking for donations for its 12th Annual Auction.

TAILS Humane Society will host the auction on June 1 at the Duke Ellington Ballroom in the Holmes Student Center. The event will include a silent auction and a live auction. During the live auction there will be games and a bidding frenzy.

“The bidding frenzy is where people bid vigorously to buy gift cards at face value,” said TAILS auction chair Michelle Bejbl.

Bejbl said people get very involved and some even end up standing on chairs as the bidding progresses.

Acceptable donations include pet items, computer items, jewelr– especially homemade jewelry–gardening supplies and live plants.

Bejbl said the event is normally held in February so TAILS is trying to include more seasonal donations. Bejbl said would be great for people to donate gift cards to local businesses.

“If someone just goes and buys a gift card to a local business and we auction it off it not only helps us it helps the community,” Bejbl said. “We really appreciate donations.”

Tickets to the Auction and Dinner Gala are $65 each, which covers hot h’orderves, champagne punch, dinner, dessert and entertainment.

“The money goes to help the 2,600 animals we serve,” Bejbl said. “We get no government or state funding and we have to raise about a half a million dollars with fundraisers and donations to cover that.”
