No one hurt in morning fire on Normal Road

By Northern Star Staff

No one was hurt in a fire reported at 10:37 a.m. today at 921 Normal Road.

Fire Chief Eric Hicks said the DeKalb Fire Department responded to the call with its full complement of service vehicles and had assistance from Sycamore, Cortland and Malta fire departments.

The apartments surrounding the fire in the complex were evacuated by police shortly after the first report, said property owner Jim Mason.

Hicks said an investigation into the cause of the fire is under way, as is an overhaul of the affected apartments. Mason said the event was unfortunate and he hasn’t had trouble with the building before.

“Accidents happen,” Mason said. “This is what insurance is for.”
