‘At Any Price’ trailer features DeKalb locations

By Kevin Bartelt

The recently release trailer for the film “At Any Price,” featuring actors Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron. Locals will recognize scenes from the movie because they were shot in DeKalb in October 2011.

The writer and director, Ramin Bahrani, shares the story of a troubled family who struggles to stay afloat in the competitive farming business.

Quaid plays Henry Whipple, a hopeful farmer, untrustworthy husband and cryptic father. Whipple will do anything to keep his four-generation farm alive, and he eagerly offers part of the farm to his son, Dean (Efron).

Although Henry does not approve, Dean aspires to race cars instead.

With a clear message about a father-son relationship, the movie also portrays the hardships for farmers in the Midwest.

On a side note, many viewers may be distracted by the fact that Efron rarely wears a shirt with sleeves in the movie. It’s not THAT hot in DeKalb.

This movie has been nominated in several film festivals, including the Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Venice Film Festival.

“Dennis Quaid gives the performance of a lifetime,” said film critic Roger Ebert.
