Annual NIU golf outing raises money for local special needs education

NIU football head coach Dave Doeren and Jeff Dobie, owner of Fatty’s Pub and Grille, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway, have raised $20,000 for local school districts through the Huskies Fore Hope golf outing, according to a Friday news release.

The pair has donated this money to the special needs programs of the DeKalb and Sycamore Public School Districts. Each district with receive a donation of $10,000, according to the release.

Jan Benson, director of special education for the Sycamore School District, said the donation was a welcome and appreciated gift.

“The donation will be used to enhance students’ experiences in the areas of technology, life skills and core academics,” Benson said in the release.

The Huskies Fore Hope golf outing is held every July at the River Heights Golf Course, 1100 S. Annie Glidden Road. This is the fourth consecutive year that the outing has sold out, and this year the outing raised double the funds it did last year, according to the release. Doeren said the money would be of great help to the students involved in the special needs programs.

“There are so many young people that have and will continue to benefit from the money raised through Huskies Fore Hope,” Doeren said in the release.
