Kris Povlsen has announced he will not for another term as mayor of DeKalb.

Povlsen’s announcement comes after “serious thought and much discussion,” according to a news release.

Povlsen has served in several elected capacities for the city of DeKalb since 1997.  In a news release, Povlsen said he was proud of several things from his tenure on City Council, including: seeing Sycamore Road transform from cornfields to retail and business development, seeing completion and supporting our downtown revitalization and the efforts of former Mayor Frank Van Buer and ReNew DeKalb, and moving the General Fund Balance Reserve from $30,000 to $3,200,000.

Povlsen said his reason for not running for another term is “simply a matter of it being the right time in my life to move on to other challenges and life experiences.”
