Cassie’s Popcorn expands to DeKalb

Cassie’s Popcorn Stand, on the corner of State and Maple St. in Sycamore, plans to open a second location in DeKalb on Sept. 15.

“We’re opening another stand, bigger than the one in Sycamore,” said co-owner Cassie Oltman. “We’re doing really well here. We’re hoping to make our business bigger.”

The new stand will be located near downtown DeKalb.

“It’ll be on Second and Locust in Van Buer Plaza,” Cassie said.

The stand is 120 years old and has remained in the family for 30 years, Cassie said.

Different styles of popcorn will be available when the new stand opens.

“We have all sorts of different types,” said co-owner Troy Oltman. “We have plain cheese, caramel, cotton candy and weekly specials with even more kinds planned.”

The Oltmans hope to expand their stands further in the future.

“We’re trying to let more of the public enjoy our popcorn,” Troy said. “We hope to someday make this our main business.”
