Campus blotter for 4/23/12

April 14

At 10 a.m., an officer responded to the NIU police department regarding a report of criminal damage to a vehicle. The officer met a complainant who said someone “keyed” his vehicle. The officer took pictures of the damage and searched the area for evidence. The case is administratively closed pending new leads.

April 17

At 9:19 p.m., an officer responded to the fifth floor of Lincoln Hall D wing regarding the odor of cannabis. The officer met with the resident who admitted to smoking cannabis, revealed a bag of cannabis and the item used to smoke it. He was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 10:02 p.m., officers responded to Stevenson North lobby regarding theft of a computer. They met with the complainant who said someone stole her laptop from her unlocked room. This case is pending investigation.

April 18

At 11:59 p.m., an officer on the fifth floor of Lincoln Hall C wing smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from a room. The officer met with the people of the room and confirmed the consumption of alcohol by people under the age of 21. The people received a verbal warning for unlawful consumption of alcohol and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.
