Campus blotter for 4/19/12

Tuesday

At 9:30 p.m., officers in the Lincoln Hall lobby noticed a banned man was in the building. Dennis J. Davis, 19, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to real property. He was processed at the NIU Police Department. Davis was transported to DeKalb County Jail when he could not post bond.

At 4:10 p.m., an officer responded to Founders Memorial Library in regard to a theft. The officer met with a woman who said someone stole her laptop when it was left unattended. This case is pending investigation.

At 4:25 p.m., officers responded to Lot S regarding damage to a vehicle. The officers located a vehicle with its front passenger window shattered. They contacted the owner, who came to the lot and said nothing was stolen from the vehicle. This case is administratively closed pending new leads.

At 4:41 p.m., officers responded to Lot S in regard to a call of burglary to motor vehicle. They observed a vehicle with its rear driver window smashed. They made contact with the owner, who said her laptop was stolen. This case is pending investigation.

At 9:19 p.m., an officer responded to the fifth floor of Lincoln Hall D Wing regarding the odor of cannabis. The officer talked with a resident who admitted to smoking cannabis and revealed a bag of cannabis and an item used to smoke the cannabis. The offender was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 9:30 p.m., officers responded to Lincoln Hall regarding a fight. Upon their arrival, one offender ran and was caught, and the other offender left the scene. Marcus P. Hankton, 21, of Chicago, and Corey A. Poe, 20, of Chicago, were arrested and charged with battery and resisting a peace officer. Hankton and Poe were processed at the NIU Police Department and released after posting bond.

At 10:02 p.m., officers responded to Stevenson North lobby regarding the theft of a computer. They met with a woman who said someone stole her laptop from her unlocked room. This case is pending investigation.
