Woman hospitalized after fire broke out at Golden Years Plaza

A fire in an eighth-floor apartment in DeKalb left one woman hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday night.

The fire, which occurred at Golden Years Plaza, 507 E. Taylor St., required the evacuation of several floors of the 16-floor complex, said DeKalb Fire Chief Bruce Harrison.

Four people were treated at the scene including one who was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Harrison said those health issues may not have all been fire-related as many people living in Golden Years have special health needs.

The fire was contained in one apartment, though some smoke escaped into the hallways and floors seven, nine and 10, Harrison said.

Harrison could not confirm as of press time the cause of the fire or whether the resident of the apartment was home at the time of the fire.
