DeKALB | The House Cafe will host local theater group Wooden Box Theater, as they present Summer Bash 2011 at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will showcase rising musical artists in DeKalb. In addition to live music, the night’s entertainment will include two summer fashion shows, special hula hoop performances, photography on display by Patrick Nichols, jewelry for sale, as well as live theater performances. A story line will connect diverse acts.

Co-hosts for the night, Madison ‘Bnty Hntr’ Shipman and Jade Cook, will celebrate the group’s three year anniversary at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway.

Daniel Sherrill, writer, director and organizer for Wooden Box Theater, will work with light and sound crews to create an exciting environment for the show.

“The House Cafe is so laid back that it makes it so easy to work with,” Sherrill said. “…We’re kind of set apart from the typical four band show. You never know what to expect when you come to a Wooden Box Theater show.”

Wooden Box Theater performances take a lot of cooperative effort from many different people — the cast for this show is 26 people.

“Usually everybody that’s on the cast list does at least three different things,” Sherrill said. “I’m confident that this group is going to pull off a heck of a show.”

This is the Wooden Box Theater’s 16th year as a performance group in the DeKalb area. The group originated in 1995 in Sycamore, Ill. and will be continuing their traditional theatrical display this Wednesday.

Summer Bash 2011 is $5 at the door and has a semi-formal dress code. It is an all ages show.

“Come because it will be unpredictable,” Sherrill said.
