Miscellaneous …

“I’m just calling to voice my views on political correctness. I don’t want to be called white. I don’t want to be called Caucasian. That stands for my race. I want to be called a European American. Let’s stand up for our rights.”

“You know people seem so upset that River Phoenix died, but if it were someone here who died of drugs, no one would care. They would say well that’s what that person gets for using drugs.”

“I’d like to comment on three things that I read in the November 2nd paper. First of all, Hillary Clinton has got some problems. Second of all, Professor Judith Testa should look straight ahead when she walks into the art building. Third of all, NIU Speaks is a great addition to the paper.”

“Here is a suggestion. Why don’t they have drop-off boxes by the residence halls and other points on campus to return library books. Does anyone think this is a good idea?”

“Yeah, Professor Judith Testa should realize that everyone has the right to free speech, and if she doesn’t like what’s going on she shouldn’t grab an eraser—she should just grab a piece of chalk and write. Remember she can write too.”

On guest columns …

“If Lisa Jaquez wants to promote unity and diversity, she should stop referring to herself as a Latino. She is an American not a Latino.”

“I just wanted to comment on the Islamic Society publication. They have really set a standard on publicizing an event, on NIU’s campus and I wanted to commend them on an excellent job for publicizing their event and having excellent programs for the week.”

On columns …

“I still just don’t understand Pete Schuh.”

On shooting …

“Hi, this is in regards to the shooting at ISU and the fraternity of Kappa Alpha Psi. I just want to say that there is a mention in here about Kappa Alpha Psi having disturbances at dances before and about an outbreak on an Oct. 16, Homecoming dance which was sponsored by NPHC not Kappa Alpha Psi. Kappa Alpha Psi was not involved in any of the disturbances that allegedly occurred at that dance. Just wanted you to clear that up in your paper.”

On NAFTA …

“The vote on NAFTA will soon be here. Right now its chances for passage do not look very favorable. It is very important for all those that back this treaty let their local representative in congress know. NAFTA is good for the United States. It will create jobs in the long term and that will be good for us as we go out and look for jobs after graduation from NIU.”

On new street …

“Yeah, I was just wondering who the moron is that put a median right in front of D-lot on the supposedly new and improved Lucinda Avenue. People that live in Neptune and want to be in the D-lot cannot go west down Lucinda because there is a median right there in the middle of the road preventing anyone from going into it.”

On I.M. column …

“I just want you to know that I think the comment on the marshmallow toasting at the frat house is very stupid. That was my room that burnt up, and I’d like to see if you can watch your things burn up, everything you own burn in front of your face, you stupid jerk.”

“I’d like to have a full apology written in your next paper because of your insult here and saying that you’d like to toast marshmallows at our burning frat house. Let’s see if we can toast your room and watch your stuff go up in flames and see how that works for you. I’d like to see it please, you idiot!”
