Two accidents reported on Barber Greene Road Thursday

Barber Greene Road had a busy night when two accidents on the road were reported within 10 minutes of each other Thursday.

At about 5:30 p.m., a three-vehicle accident sent seven people to Kishwaukee Community Hospital at the intersection of Barber Greene and Peace roads. A white Oldsmobile turned left in front of an eastbound SUV going through the intersection, causing the two to collide and also strike a pickup truck passing through the intersection, said Kevin Hickey, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy.

The six family members inside the SUV and the driver of the Oldsmobile were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, said DeKalb Fire Chief Bruce Harrison. No fatalities were reported at the scene, Harrison said. He did not know the extent of any injuries at the time.

About 10 minutes later, two vehicles crashed head-on in the 22000 block of Somonauk Road, north of Barber Greene Road. A northbound pickup truck swerved into the southbound lane to avoid rear-ending a turning car and crashed head-on with a southbound gray Volvo, said DeKalb County Sheriff’s Lt. Van Bomar.

Both drivers were conscious at the scene and transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Bomar said.
