Six residents have been displaced following a condominium fire that caused an estimated $660,000 in damage Wednesday night.

At about 5 p.m., the fire started in the middle of the garage of the four-unit condominium at 1562 West Stonehenge Drive which then spread to the building, said Sycamore Fire Chief Bill Riddle. The fire was ruled accidental, Riddle said, but the cause has not been determined as of Friday afternoon.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes and fully extinguished by 9 p.m., according to a Sycamore Fire Department news release. Sycamore Fire Department and State Fire Marshall investigators were on the scene Thursday morning investigating the cause of the fire, according to the release.

Stored construction material and the opened garage door may have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, Riddle said.

The fire caused an estimated $560,000 worth of damage to the structure of the building and $100,000 to the contents, according to the release. The DeKalb County Chapter of the American Red Cross was on scene after the fire to help displaced residents.
