Argument at McDonald’s leads to arrest

An argument at a McDonald’s drive-thru led to a drunk driving arrest Jan. 20.

At around midnight, two individuals in the same car began to argue violently as they drove through the McDonald’s drive-thru. Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department said the driver of the car exited the vehicle to get help from the driver of the car behind him.

That driver happened to be an off-duty University Police officer.

The other person in the car, Jacob Dorland, 21, drove away, leaving the owner with the off-duty cop. The owner explained to the officer that Dorland did not have permission to use the car, and the officer reported the incident to the UP, Spangler said.

A short time later, the UP pulled over Dorland near the 600 block of Normal Road. Having noticed that Dorland was showing signs of being drunk, the UP arrested him for driving under the influence, Lt. Todd Henert of the UP said.

Spangler said that the owner of the vehicle dropped the stolen vehicle charges against him.
