A fire caused by a small soldering torch caused about $4,000 worth of damage to an apartment Tuesday night.

At around 10:47 p.m., the DeKalb Fire Department was called to 826 W. Hillcrest Drive, Apt. C, for a structure fire, where they found smoke coming from the siding of the apartment.

Firefighters removed the siding and extinguished the fire in about five minutes, which firefighters believe was caused by a soldering torch that caught some structural material on fire while fixing plumbing beneath the apartment, said DeKalb Fire Chief Bruce Harrison.

No one was injured in the fire and the building sustained minimal damage, according to a DeKalb Fire Department news release.

Sixteen firefighters were called to the scene.
