Virginity is next up for bid in our society

By NYSSA BULKES

Virginity is the next item up for bid.

Not for everyone, of course, but for 22-year-old Tyra Banks show guest Natalie Dylan, her “first time” is up for grabs to the highest bidder. She’s auctioning through the Moonlite Bunnyranch in Nevada to help pay off college loans, according a Sept. 12 article in The Reno Gazette-Journal.

OK, yech. While this is certainly a problem with which college students across the country can relate, I’m pretty sure there are other ways to pay off debt.

At this rate, however, Dylan’s problem will go away pretty quickly after her one-night prostitution stint. According to the E! Online video, Dylan is getting bids anywhere from $1 million to $3.5 million.

This is, if nothing else, sad. It’s without a doubt up to her how she wants to solve her problem, but the method still strikes me as slimey. The publicity that came from this plea certainly worked in her favor; with the astronomical numbers being placed as bids, she’ll have no worries fixing her debt.

I just hope this doesn’t become a trend or something more young women decide to take part in to solve their problems. This is officially weird story of the week.

Natalie’s chat with Tyra airs Monday, Nov. 3.
