Detox is closed until Nov. 14 following the suspension of the club’s liquor license after a DeKalb Liquor Commission hearing.

The club located at 1000 W. Lincoln Highway had its Class A liquor license pulled following a transfer of ownership from the previous proprietor that was not approved by the DeKalb Liquor Commission, said City Clerk Donna Johnson.

At an Oct. 30 hearing, the club was fined a total $1,000 for two previous violations where they allowed two minors under 21-years-old to enter the bar, and for selling $10 wrist bands to women allowing them to drink unlimited beer or liquor for five hours, according to the routing sheet from the hearing. Also fined at the hearing were Eduardo’s, 214 E. Lincoln Highway, and O’Leary’s, 260 E. Lincoln Highway, for allowing minors under 21-years-old to enter the bar.

Detox’s class A liquor license, which allows for the sale and consumption of alcohol at the business, was suspended until a Nov. 12 hearing, after ownership of the bar was transferred without permission of the liquor commission, Johnson said. The liquor license was originally issued for the previous ownership at “The U” who managed the location.

The next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12 at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St. where the status of the liquor license issued for the location will be discussed.

Detox Owner Ransey Vazquez could not be reached for comment Thursday, and did not immediately return phone messages.
