A Chicago man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly robbed a delivery driver with a BB gun, DeKalb Police said.

Kevin Johnson, 19, was arrested in the 800 block of Crane Drive hiding in the bushes after the robbery earlier that night.

At 11:22 p.m., Johnson approached a delivery driver, displayed a gun later identified as a BB gun, took the driver’s property and fled the scene on a bicycle, said DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson was found later in the 900 block of Crane Drive.

As police searched Johnson, he struggled with the officer, and the officer’s head struck the side of the building causing minor injuries, Feithen said. The officer declined medical attention.

Johnson then fled the area and was found hiding in bushes in the 800 block of Crane Drive. Police later found the BB gun in the area which resembled a real gun, Feithen said.

Evidence linking the suspect to the robbery was located on Johnson.

Johnson was arrested and charged with armed robbery and aggravated resisted arrest.

The delivery driver James Terra, who said he works for Domino’s, said he was visiting his girlfriend in the area at the time of the robbery, and was leaning into the window of his car when someone behind him said “give me all your money,” Terra said.

When he turned around, Johnson pressed the BB gun against his chest.

Terra then gave Johnson the money and called police after he left.

“Afterwards, I was pretty much the same,” Terra said. “I really don’t feel that affected by it.”

Terra said the gun looked real at the time, and it looked like Johnson had modified or painted it.
