A citizen passing by a “scuffle” between a police officer and a man being arrested, grabbed a radio the officer had dropped and called for help Monday.

At 10:19 a.m., a victim reported her wallet was stolen in the 100 block of South Eighth Street.

During the investigation, police learned the suspect, Jeremiah Scott, 30, of Rockford, was in the 1100 block of West Lincoln Highway according to DeKalb Police.

While trying to arrest Scott, a “scuffle” started and the officer injured his knee and his arm, said DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen. The officer declined medical treatment.

During the arrest, the officer lost his radio and a nearby citizen grabbed the officer’s radio and transmitted that an officer was down, calling more officers to the scene, Feithen said.

Scott broke away from the arrest, and was caught a short time later according to police. He was arrested and charged with theft, resisting arrest and failure to appear on a warrant from Kane County.
