Fairview Dr. scheduled to reopen in mid-November

Bridge repairs are right on schedule for Fairview Drive and the road is expected to reopen in mid-November.

“It’s pretty on target for how long it takes to repair a bridge,” said DeKalb City Engineer Joel Maurer. He also said repairs were not affected by the recent flooding.

The bridge was 55-years-old and was deficient in load capacity among other things Maurer said.

Fairview Drive has been closed between South First Street and Annie Glidden Road since May.

DeKalb acquired grant money from the Illinois Department of Transportation to repair the bridge.”It was just deteriorating,” Maurer said.

“The bridge is about 75 percent done,” Maurer said. “We’re talking the middle of November before it’s done.”

Nilesh Patel, manager of the Super 8 Motel, 800 W. Fairview Drive, has seen an increase in people using his parking lot as a turn-around spot.

“It does affect everyone’s business,” Patel said.
