Three people were arrested when a DeKalb man attempted to drive away while his car was being towed Saturday morning, police said.

About 4 a.m., DeKalb Police were called to Mason Properties, 300 Deerpath Lane West, for a report of a fight. At the scene, police saw a fight between Steven A. Brown, 21, of Chicago, and a tow-truck driver, according to DeKalb Police reports.

The driver of the vehicle, Darius V. Buford, 22, of DeKalb, then got in the vehicle and drove away, causing a piece of towing equipment underneath the car to shoot out and hit an officer in the foot, said DeKalb Police Sergeant Bob Redel.

Buford and Brown were both arrested. Jeremy J. Doss, 22, of DeKalb, was also arrested in the incident.

Buford was charged with aggravated resisting, criminal damage to property and reckless driving. Doss was charged with resisting a peace officer and obstructing justice. Brown was charged with battery.

Redel said the officer’s injuries were not severe, and will not miss work because of them.
