Vacant IDOT building to be demolished

By AMANDA PODGORNY

The vacant building located on the corner of Route 23 and Route 38 will be demolished next week.

The building, formerly a bank, has been owned by Illinois Department of Transportation for several years, said Mike Claffey, IDOT spokesman.

Demolition will begin Monday, said DeKalb Engineer Joel Maurer.

To accommodate the demolition, lanes will be closed. One southbound lane on Route 23 will be closed and one westbound lane on Route 38 will be closed.

The city has no near term plan for the empty lot once demolition is complete, Maurer said.
