NIU showcases its talent at this year’s Homecoming talent show

By MICHAEL VAN DER HARST

It’s that time of year to see the best that NIU has to offer.

This year’s Homecoming talent show will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the Holmes Student Center.

Each performer will have up to five minutes to wow the judges in different categories.

Only NIU students will be allowed to participate in the event, which is hosted by the Campus Activities Board.

Judges will look at the quality of the performance, the audiences’ appeal, originality and how appropriate the performance is.

Appearance will also be taken into consideration.

In 2002, there was an incident at the talent show regarding an individual and his use of vulgar language. To prevent anything like this from happening, CAB has included a rule that states, “If your act is deemed lewd or offensive, you will be disqualified from the event,” according to the Homecoming activities packet.

The winners of the Amazing Race will also be announced during the event.

Winners in the past have played the drums and guitar, and performed comedy and dance routines, among other things.

The coronation for the 2007 Homecoming King and Queen will take place as well, with the winners walking on the field during Saturday’s football game at Huskie Stadium.

Chasity Simon, vice president of programming, was unavailable for comment as of press time.
