St. Charles haunted house scares adults and children alike

Tucked away in the Tin Cup Pass Shopping Center lies the St. Charles Jaycee Haunted House, offering thrills and chills for all ages.

Located at 1560 E. Main St., St. Charles, the haunted house has been scaring local residents for years.

“We’re not exactly sure when it started out,” said John Coplen, project manager of the haunted house. “But it’s been over 35 years, we’re sure of that.”

The haunted house offers classic things such as a maze, strobe light scenes, black light scenes and people jumping out at patrons. The recommended age is 8 or 9, but Coplen said it all depends on the child, saying some 5-year-olds can make it through without a problem, where some adults cannot.

“It can be very scary,” said Coplen.

St. Charles Jaycee Haunted House operates today and Saturday from 7:30 to 11 p.m., Sunday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $7, with a $1 discount with a donation of canned food.

The haunted house and maze takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk through, depending on one’s pace.
