New Choice in DeKalb Restaurants

DeKALB | DeKalb residents can add a new restaurant to their list of options come Feb. 1.

The Blackstone Restaurant, 1262 W. Lincoln Highway, will open at the site of the old Spring Garden Restaurant.

Owner Freddy Castro said he plans to open the restaurant on schedule as long as all the finishing touches are completed by that date.

The Blackstone will be a family-style restaurant and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Breakfast [will include] omelets, eggs and bacon,” Castro said. “Anything you can call a sandwich [will be served for lunch]. Dinner [options include] American, Italian and Mexican dishes.”

Castro has also applied for a liquor license, but hasn’t received one.

Assistant City Clerk Tonya Christensen said Castro applied for a license, but the class of the license for which he applied was not available.

The Blackstone Restaurant may be bringing similar food selections to DeKalb as other area family restaurants, but the way the meal is served and seasoned may offer something new for customers.

“The food may be the same, but I don’t know what to tell you yet because I haven’t been in the kitchen yet,” Castro said.
