Sauer offers hopeful message after losing election

DeKALB | Democratic supporters may know Chuck Sauer, but voters apparently did not.

“He did not run in the primary,” said Kevin Malone, president of the NIU College Democrats. “He doesn’t really go with the flow.”

Losing the 70th District spot to Republican incumbent Bob Pritchard, Sauer had a hopeful message for his supporters Tuesday: “These are moments people dread,” Sauer said to the crowd gathered at the River Heights Golf Course in DeKalb. “I have bad news and then I have good news: The bad news is my opponent was able to get more [votes]. The good news is that my family doesn’t have to be chased by the paparazzi and that I will be able to better afford to send my girls to college.”

Sauer also eluded that he might take another stab at running for public office, saying he wouldn’t “rule out the possibility” of running in the future.

“I had such a wonderful time,” Sauer said. “Walking door-to-door was the best thing since I was trick-or-treating.”

For Eileen Dubin, chair of the DeKalb County Democrats, the next step is to look to the future.

“The hardest part of my job is to find a good candidate,” Dubin said. “Sometimes it takes one time, two times, three times to do it.”
