Two occupied Sycamore homes and one under construction were damaged by fire early Monday morning, according to the Sycamore Fire Department.

The department received a call at about 3:17 a.m. Monday to a report of three homes on fire on Sandburg Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a home at 672 Sandburg Drive completely in flames, which then spread to homes at 664 and 712 Sandburg. Residents in the occupied homes were awakened and safely evacuated.

13 area fire departments were called to assist in fighting the blaze.

As a result, the construction site was completely destroyed and the completed homes suffered about 70 percent damage to their east and west exposure sites, according to Fire Chief Bill Riddle.

Early damage estimates are at $1,500,000 for the three structures and their contents. The cause of the initial blaze is still unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
