The Bursar’s office in Lincoln Hall was supposed to open on Tuesday, but do to an employee illness, it will not open until Sept. 13.

One of the full-time employees at the Lincoln Hall office fell ill, delaying the opening date of the office.

Students attending NIU have had some contact with the Bursar’s office whether they are aware of it or not. This is the office where all of the funds are taken care of through the university. For example, financial aid is the responsibility of the Bursar’s office. If there is a problem with tuition, schedules, etc., this office would handle the problem.

Last October, Lincoln Hall opened up a Bursar’s office. Some may ask, why is this type of office in Lincoln Hall? One of the most important reasons is the convenience for the students.

“The advantages of having a Bursar’s office in Lincoln Hall is that students don’t have to wait in long lines, and it’s close to home so to speak,” said Bursar Richard Cochrane.

“It is a convenient place to make payments. It is also more convenient for students to pay their phone bills,” Cochrane said.

“When the office opened last October, the students that lived in Lincoln and Douglas used it the most. This year we hope that students living in Grant and Stevenson Towers take advantage of it,” Cochrane said.

“We decided to house this office in Lincoln because they had the space available for us, and also because of the convenient location,” Cochrane said.

“Having a Bursar’s office in a residence hall is so convenient for the students. They don’t always have to truck across campus,” said an employee at Lincoln Hall. “Last year when it opened, a lot of people didn’t know about it,” she said.

“Hopefully more people will be aware of it for this year,” she said.

“Last year when they opened, the lines were never long. It was usually really quick. They can help you with most everything too,” she said.

The new office will be located right near the mailboxes as you walk into Lincoln Hall. They will be opened from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
