Does DeKalb care about governmental spying?

By Alisa Prigge

There has been much discussion and concern lately about the domestic spying conducted by the National Security Agency with permission from President George W. Bush.

Do NIU students and DeKalb residents care about the spying?

“I don’t think that it’s right. I would have never agreed to that. I don’t know who would.”

Andre Morris

Senior, corporate communication major

“When it starts to affect us more, people will care. We need some monitoring but you can definitely go overboard with it, too.”

Roger Supler

Rockford resident

“I don’t think it should be happening. It invades our privacy. We should be able to say and do as we please as long as we don’t infringe upon the government.”

Julie Brockman

Geneva resident

“I don’t really know anything about it. I haven’t really heard much.”

Katie Walus

Junior, nursing major

“I care because it will affect me more in the future. I value privacy. I don’t like the idea of the government watching me all the time.”

Nick Kuykendal

Junior, meteorology major

“Yes, I care. I think they should do it. I want to know who is in our country doing what.”

Victor Nistor

Geneva resident
