Editor’s Note: This is the second of a two-part series featuring a typical day in the life of NIU President John Peters. Part One focused on Peters’ morning.

NIU President John Peters’ next scheduled appointment for 12:30 p.m. with Michael Malone, vice president of university advancement and development, took place about 12:50 p.m. and lasted almost 25 minutes.

Periodically through the meeting, Peters took small bites of his half-eaten sandwich from lunch, which he did not finish completely.

Peters said he likes working during his lunch break to “maximize the day.”

“Most of the time, I have luncheons with various people – usually business people and politicians,” Peters said. “I’m not very big on restaurant food – I have to eat it so much.”

After lunch around 1:45 p.m., Peters rode with Vice Provost Earl Seaver to the grand opening of the Grant Tutoring Center, where both gave speeches. After giving his speech and socializing with different people, Seaver drove Peters back to his office around 3 p.m., where he prepared for the rest of his day.
