District 428 holds open house

DeKalb residents will have a chance to meet candidates for the District 428 School Board Tuesday.

This will be a brief open house for the candidates before their orientation at the next school board meeting, said Ona Johnson, a local election official.

Seven candidates are on the ballot this year, Johnson said. Top vote-getters will be given seats on the board.

“The elections will be held on April 5 for three board seats,”School Board President Tom Teresinski said. “These are district-wide elections, so the top three vote-getters would be elected to serve four-year terms.”

The only incumbent running for re-election is Andy Small, Teresinski said.

On the ballot with Small are M. Cecil Smith, Misty Haji-Sheikh, Mike Verbic, Joyce M. Lieberman, Jennifer Hayes and Michael Welsh.

School board vice president Suzanne Lambrecht and board member Mike Griesbaum will not be running for re-election.

The remaining four school board seats will be filled by the current members until the 2007 election, Johnson said.

The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the District 428 Education Center, 901 S. Fourth St.
