CLEARANCE COATS

By Erin Wienke

Now is the time to hit the mall’s clearances racks for winter coats. Winter coat styles don’t vary much from year to year. Zipper front coats without hoods in classics like white and black will always look contemporary. The same is true with gray or black peacoats. This style has remained in fashion for years. Peacoats can be worn by both men and women. Stay away from cropped or long coats because unique lengths can go in and out of style from year to year. The best length for a coat is slightly longer than waist length.

Winter coats can be up to 50 percent off depending on when the sale is and what store is having the sale. Great deals can be found at places like TJ Maxx and stores in local malls that don’t recycle styles season after season. These places have to get rid of as much merchandise as possible once the season ends. The stores try to stay contemporary by keeping only current fashions in stock.

Even though you’ll be purchasing this winter coat at a bargain price, make sure you keep in mind the basic fit ideals while shopping. Sometimes tempting prices can cause impulse buys and the item may be too large or small to wear comfortably. When shopping for winter coats, make sure to wear a thick sweater. If you try the coat on with a t-shirt under it, it may be too tight while wearing sweaters. Another good idea is to reach your arms above your head once you’ve tried the coat on. If your lower back is exposed, then the coat doesn’t fit. There is nothing worse then getting snow blown up your coat on a blustery winter day.

Some coats can actually conceal flaws. Peacoats can help slim larger tops while longer coats can lengthen the look of the body and make the wearer appear taller. These additional perks should be kept in mind while shopping for the perfect clearance sale winter coat.
