NIU looks to take out Falcons in regulation

By Jarrod Rice

The last time the NIU women’s basketball team traveled to Bowling Green, the Huskies won 102-97 in an NCAA record four overtimes.

With the Huskies fresh off of a double-overtime loss to Central Michigan, they’ll hope to play a 40-minute game when they take on Bowling Green at 6 p.m. today.

Bowling Green (12-6 overall, 5-2 MAC) has won its games by an average margin of 17.4 points this season but are coming off of a 62-53 loss to Kent State.

“They are strong inside with [Liz] Honegger and [Ali] Mann, and we will need to defend them,” NIU coach Carol Hammerle said. “Both of them play well together and look for each other.”

The Huskies are on a two-game skid of their own and have lost four of their last five. NIU has beat the Falcons the last three times the two have met in Bowling Green.

Sophomore guard Stephanie Raymond leads the Huskies with 15.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and will need to keep up her production against the Falcons, who are in second place in the MAC.

“We need to try and move them off the boards,” Hammerle said. “At the same time, you can’t take away something without giving something away.”
