Women’s hoops tries to score at C. Michigan

Though Central Michigan has lost five of its last six games, NIU women’s basketball coach Carol Hammerle knows there is no easy road game in the MAC.

“In the MAC you can’t go into any game overconfident,” Hammerle said. “Anything can happen when you are on the road.”

The Huskies will once again try to rebound from a home loss at 1 p.m. Saturday at Central Michigan.

The Chippewas (7-10 overall, 1-5 MAC) are 5-3 at home this season and are shooting 43.9 percent from the field.

“We need to make stops and play solid defense,” Hammerle said. “I’m concerned because they have been shooting the ball much better in conference play and they can really go to the glass.”

The Huskies (6-11, 3-3) average 55.6 points a game, third worst in the MAC.

Hammerle said the team will need more production from the bench if it hopes to score more points.

“We know that we can play with top teams,” Hammerle said. “We just need to get better point production from the bench.”

Senior guard Rachel Sillar is the Huskies’ leading scorer off the bench with an average 2.5 points in 15 minutes this season.
