Bands Battling Cancer

In the name of Elaine Molburg, eight bands and more than 100 people raised more than $500 to fight breast cancer Sunday afternoon at the Holmes Student Center’s Diversions Lounge.

-The funds raised from admission and raffle tickets benefitted the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Molburg, mother of freshman art education major Colin Molburg, died of breast cancer July 31, 1999.

Senior psychology major Colin McCarthy, a friend of the Molburg family, organized the event to help fight the disease that has killed several of his family members and friends, including Elaine Molburg.

“I’m honored and my mom would be honored that Colin [McCarthy] has taken the time to do this benefit,” Colin Molburg said.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Uphill Ski Team presented the show while the Student Association booked the Diversions Lounge for the night.

“She was a really strong person,” McCarthy said.

Mike Felumlee, Amazing Transparent Man, Split Habit, Solister, Uphill Ski Team, Starter Kit, Wake of Poseidon and After the Fall played the benefit concert.

“It’s great to see people come out, but it’s depressing to see really good bands play and no one supporting them,” said George Lamberis, Wake of Poisedon’s lead singer.
