Thanks volunteers

I would like to take this opportunity, during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, to thank the volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters of DeKalb County for their time, energy and commitment. Each volunteer builds a one-to-one friendship with a child or youth, generally from a single-parent family, who needs extra adult attention and guidance.

The “Big” spends 3 to 5 hours a week with his or her “Little” playing ball, working on homework, taking walks, sharing hobbies, making a meal, or just talking. The volunteer makes a big difference by helping one child to grow to become a competent and caring adult.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of DeKalb County, a program of Family Service Agency, helps the whole family by strengthening the child’s self worth, social skills and competence while offering support and referrals to the parent.

Many thanks to the 130 current volunteers and to all those who have volunteered with us in the past. If anyone is interested in more information about Big Brothers/Big Sisters of DeKalb County, please call me at Family Service Agency, 758-8616.
