DeKalb County Sheriff’s police arrested a second man in connection with the beating and robbery of a DeKalb man early Friday.

Humberto Gudino, 22, of 515 E. Taylor St., Apt. 8, was arrested late Monday night. He is charged with robbery and aggravated battery. Police said Gudino was involved in the incident in which a man was battered and robbed before being left in a ditch on the side of the road in rural Cortland.

The victim then “staggered” to Cortland Estates, 4100 Aspen Drive, where a resident of the complex saw him and called police, said Kevin Hickey, chief deputy for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. From there, the victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where police met with him.

The victim is an acquaintance of the suspects, Hickey said, and they had been seen together at various DeKalb liquor establishments earlier in the evening.

Angel J. Roman, 29, of 638 S. 11th St., was arrested Sunday in connection with the incident. After further investigation, Gudino also was found to be involved, said Lt. Van Bomar of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was released from the hospital Sunday.

Gudino has a court date set for Thursday. Roman’s court date is set for Friday. Both men are being held in the DeKalb County Jail on $40,000 bond.
