The DeKalb County Board gave several bid awards for road projects Wednesday.

One bid award was for various road district aggregate projects for this construction year. Macklin Inc. of Rochelle won the $36,765 bid.

Jim MacMurdo, representing District 9, said the money will come from county funds.

The project will take place on Willret Road in Milan Township and South County Line Road in Paw Paw Road District.

MacMurdo said aggregate is pieces of rock that will be spread on county roads.

A bid of $663,606.20 was awarded to Beniach Construction Company of Hindsboro for seal coating for various county roads.

It has not been decided yet which roads will get seal coating, he said. Roads typically receive seal coating every three years.

The construction season usually begins in mid-April, although it could start later because of the weather, MacMurdo said.

The county board also approved a fee waiver policy for building permit applications for local government and schools.

Roger Steimel, representative for District 3, said a fee waiver usually was given to taxing bodies and the move now makes it official.

Dennis Sands, chairman of the county board, also addressed Tuesday’s elections and thanked everyone who helped promote the public safety tax referendum.

The proposal, which was supposed to help alleviate county jail overcrowding, was rejected by 53 percent.

“We, as the county board, have some difficult choices ahead of us,” Sands said. “We have to come together with a viable solution for the jail overcrowding.”
