A DeKalb man in being held at the DeKalb County Jail following his arrest late Saturday on charges of robbery and aggravated battery.

Angel J. Roman, 29, of 638 S. 11th Street was arrested after police spoke to a victim of a robbery and a battery at Kishwaukee Community Hospital on Friday morning.

According to police, Roman and an acquaintance were hanging out at various DeKalb liquor establishments late Thursday and early Friday.

Later in the morning, while driving through rural Cortland the two allegedly had a disagreement, and Roman battered and robbed his friend, leaving him in a ditch on the side of the road, said Kevin Hickey, Chief Deputy for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office.

The victim then staggered to Cortland Estates, 4100 Aspen Dr, where he sought help. A resident of the complex on their way to work spotted the victim and called police. From there the victim was taken to KCH, where police met with him.

The investigation netted Roman on Saturday. Police found $200 in cash and a Resident Alien identification card in his possession that he was not able to account for.

He is currently being held in the county jail on $4,000 bond. Roman has a court date scheduled for Friday.
