Editors note: Because of Spring Break, the Northern Star last published March 4. As the Star did not publish, every major crime in the area could not be reported immediately.

Early last week, a victim at Kishwaukee Community Hospital told DeKalb police officers he was attacked by four subjects in the 700 block of West Lincoln Highway.

During the March 7 incident, the victim said he had been stabbed by an unknown number of people. Police started an investigation and later that morning arrested two men.

Shaun R. Mitchell, 21, and Vernon C. Rigg, 20, both of DeKalb, were charged with aggravated battery and mob action.

Both charges carry fines up to $25,000 and jail sentences of one to five years.

The victim recovered and was released.

Robberies

Shortly before 2 p.m. March 8, employees at the DeKalb County Credit Union, 305 E. Locust, reported a robbery.

According to DeKalb police, a male entered the bank and implied he had a weapon, though one never was displayed. The suspect was seen fleeing north on Third Street.

No one was injured in the incident.

Three days later, on Thursday, employees at Arby’s, 2000 Sycamore Road, reported that two subjects attempted to rob their business.

According to police, about 10:30 p.m., the two subjects rushed an employee taking out the garbage. They fled soon after with no money. No one was injured.

Police have yet to make an arrest in either case, Sgt. Wes Hoadley said.
