Arson results in $20,000 in damage to home

DeKalb Police and Fire departments are investigating an arson that occurred Saturday morning that resulted in about $20,000 in damage.

Firefighters arrived on the scene, 505 S. Fifth St., about 4:45 a.m. to find smoke coming from a first floor doorway.

Upon entering the building, firefighters found heavy smoke conditions throughout the first floor.

Several small fires were located on the first floor and basement and were extinguished within 15 minutes.

No one was injured because of the fire.

After an initial investigation, officials determined someone set the fire; however, the incident still is under investigation.
