Vacant building to become new school

The plan commission went two for three in approving motions set before it at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The four commission members present gave a go-ahead to Cornerstone Christian Academy to rezone 121 N. Ninth St. from heavy industrial to general commercial in order to allow Cornerstone to gain a special-use permit to turn the vacant building into a secondary school, serving grades seven through 12.

Byrle Lauriat, a junior high English teacher of 15 years, spoke on behalf of Cornerstone, addressing many concerns brought forth by Brady. Lauriat said the school has plans to expand onto its Sycamore campus in the near future.
