Domestic battery suspect arrested

A 911 hang-up call that led to a seven-hour standoff ended around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning with a man arrested and taken into custody.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 10 p.m. Tuesday and traced the call to an address in Lee, Ill., about 20 miles southwest of DeKalb. While deputies were en route to the residence, the dispatcher telephoned the house.

After reconnecting with the household, the dispatcher determined there was a domestic dispute happening and heard a shotgun blast in the background.

Deputies arrived at the residence and successfully helped five family members, some of whom were children, to safety. No one was seriously injured in the incident, according to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, Sheriff’s officers were able to convince the suspect to surrender himself.

Michael D. Fogelsanger, 38, of Lee, Ill., was taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

The defendant was charged with two counts of domestic battery, which is a Class A misdemeanor, and two counts of unlawful restraint, which is a Class A 4 felony

He is being held at the DeKalb County Jail and will have a bond set at 9:30 a.m. today.

Officers were able to confiscate several riffles, shotguns and boxes of ammunition at the scene.
