Area bars offer refreshments, good times

If your team didn’t make it to the Super Bowl this year, if you lost all your money betting on the playoff championship games and if John Madden’s uncontrollable ability to point out the blatantly obvious is in rare form, you still can bet on wild Super Bowl parties.

-For those of legal drinking age, three DeKalb bars will celebrate Sunday’s Super Bowl with enough prizes and drinks to quench your thirst. And for those non-bar-goers, the Weekender is giving away free tips on how to throw the most rocking Super Bowl party this side of Annie Glidden Road.

Molly’s Eatery & Drinkery, located at 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, will give away more than $1,000 in cash and prizes. Broken down, that’s roughly $300 in cash, and a bunch of hats, shirts and beer glasses. Along with playing Super Bowl Squares, Molly’s will have drinks and pizza specials. Sweet deal. Super Bowl Squares, as previously mentioned, is kind of like that cool little Battleship board game, but with NFL scores, instead of educated guesses.

Fatty’s, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway, will give away quite literally the best seats in the house. Saturday night, Fatty’s will announce the winner of the week’s drawing for the seats, Fatty’s owner Jeff Dobie said. The winner will get two blow-up recliners, positioned in front of the big-screen, a Miller Light-stocked refrigerator and their very own fully-functional waitress.

Starbusters Bar & Grill, located at 930 Pappas Drive, will add to the Super Bowl festivities as it has 22 TVs, including two big-screens, that will be blaring the excitement at game time, Starbusters owner Chris Tsiftilis said. Along with drink specials, tons of giveaways and prizes, Starbusters will serve free half-time hot dogs.

For those who don’t want the bar atmosphere with their football, the key to throwing a Super Bowl party at home is the size of the TV. Those 20-inch residence hall TVs just won’t cut it on Super Bowl Sunday. Rent-a-Center, 1748 Sycamore Road, will rent 60 inch Mitsubishi televisions for $189. You probably don’t want to wait since the supply is in demand.

“I have four [TVs] in stock,” said Troy Fox, a Rent-a-Center employee. Comfy leather recliners, ideal for the armchair quarterback, also are available for $49.99. Rent-a-Center promises free delivery and set-up for all items rented.
