Star moves to Altgeld Hall

A sign on The Northern Star’s door now reads “Gone to Altgeld.”

The Star is moving this weekend from Campbell Hall, 615 Lincoln Terrace, its home for the past twelve years, to room 108 of Altgeld Hall.

The Star will be unable to put out newspapers Monday or Tuesday as a result of the move. Production will resume on Wednesday.

Altgeld Hall is only a temporary home for the Star. The newspaper will move into the new Campus Life Building after its construction.

“Although the building has a lot of tradition, it is time for the Star to move on,” said Sabryna Cornish, the Star’s editor-in-chief.

Cornish said the Star will be able to put out a better paper when they move into their permanent home, the Campus Life Building.

“Our new temporary home is an improvement over Campbell Hall,”

said Jerry Thompson, faculty advisor to the Star.

He said he believed the accommodations at Altgeld Hall are better suited for newspaper production.

“The Campus Life Building will also be great for newspaper production, since we had a hand in designing where we will be. It will also include more modern equipment and furniture,” said Thompson.

He said he hopes the readers understand it might take some time to get the paper running smoothly again after the move. “The move might affect the quality of the paper for a short time while we get fully settled.”
