Booklet to ease confusion

By Philip Dalton

With five separate construction projects soon to start on campus, confusion is bound to hit students in the coming months. For this reason, the Student Association executives and staff have been at work trying to gather information to inform students of the impending construction storm.

A portion of those efforts is in the hands of student Regent John Butler, who is compiling a booklet of information that names the construction projects to take place. It offers history as well as other information specific to those projects.

The booklet being authored by Butler will include the Lucinda Avenue/ Normal Road Reconstruction, Campus Life Building, Parking Structure, Faraday II and the Center for Black Studies.

Butler described the booklet as “a profile of five projects in regards to how they will affect student life. It is a consolidation of information gathered from different adviser offices within the SA.”

Butler said he felt the report will help because “no student could possibly, on their own efforts, gather all the information because it is spread out all over in various documents.” He also said the SA Senate and officers will use the booklet regularly in making decisions about future projects.

Butler explained the project “was a call by SA President Paul Middleton to consolidate all information so the SA could do its part to welcome campus improvements, while assuring a safe and informed transition.” He also said he felt the booklet was important because the construction will interrupt student and automotive traffic on campus dramatically.

Butler said the booklet will be available May 10 at the SA office in the Holmes Student Center.
