CAB Coffeehouse starts anew

By Nicholas Utech

CAB is starting out a new year, and with the new year comes a new face who will continue to bring entertainment to students.

“I have some new ideas,” said Laisha Fox, a junior business management and marketing major and the newly appointed coordinator for CAB Coffeehouse. “I want to see more of the student body involved in the events.”

Coffeehouse won’t be changing too much, though, Fox said.

“Because I’m new, a lot of things I’ll keep as tradition until I know the ropes,” she said. “My whole focus this year is to target all racial backgrounds, and get them involved with Coffeehouse.”

Fox spends her free time with her family and hanging out with friends.

“I like to spend time with my six-year-old sister at home,” she said. “Our bond is very strong. I also model in my spare time.”

Fox said that although she had attended many Coffeehouse events in the past, she felt like she “belonged” at the most recent one this year.

“I really enjoyed [guitarist] Michael [Gulezian],” she said. “He had expressed to me that he had been really distressed over what had happened [in New York], but his music helped ease the audience’s stress.”

Fox said that she would be “more than glad to have Michael perform again.”

Mike Brady, president of CAB, spoke highly of Fox’s involvement in Coffeehouse.

“We felt that she had the best qualities for the job,” he said. “I haven’t worked with her much, but she seems really nice.”

Brady said Fox is very involved in a lot of organizations around the university, and he sees that as a strength.

“I’m a leader, but I will ask for direction when it is needed and I will accept criticism when it’s given,” Fox said. “I want individuals to look at me for the positive things in my life.”

Fox knows there will be ups and downs in the year, and part of that will be because of her.

“My greatest weakness is that I’m a perfectionist,” she said. “Not every time you’ll get a perfect show and you just have to accept it.”

Fox’s first show will be Saturday, and she’ll also be having “One Handed Molly” perform at noon Oct. 10 in MLK.

“There’s a band I’m trying to get for the 22, but it’s still up in the air,” she said. “If university groups want to perform, just contact me and drop off a demo.”

Fox said the CAB staff has been really supportive of her, and she thinks the year is going to be fun. However, she is still looking for more people interested in the Coffeehouse committee.
