Speaker verifies plan to leave SA

Student Association Speaker Dawn Lowry confirmed reports Wednesday that she is resigning, taking the SA staff by surprise.

Lowry said she planned on resigning her position as the head of the SA because of other commitments. Other jobs, serving as treasurer of the forensics team and schoolwork, were the reasons Lowry listed for her resignation. Lowry is the director of TV-8.

Lowry also said she was frustrated with the position. “I’m frustrated because I couldn’t find a job to do,” she said.

Lowry was paid minimum wage for the office hours she kept at her position.

SA President Paul Middleton declined to comment, saying he did not know about Lowry’s plans to resign.

Lowry said she wanted to stress the fact that her resignation has nothing to do with anyone in the SA.

“It’s my fault,” she said. “The SA needs someone with a strong desire to keep things running on a parliamentary level.”

Lowry said if she knew something like this was going to happen, she would not have wasted the time of the students in the first place.

Lowry also resigned from the SA Senate altogether.

It is unclear who will take Lowry’s place. The SA Senate will have to hold an election.

Lowry was elected to the position after an election which resulted in a run-off between herself and Sen. Nelson Perez.
