“Students for Reich,” an organization designed to aid the candidacy of democratic congressional candidate Jonathan Reich, will be holding some events this weekend to support their candidate.

According to “Students for Reich” President Mike Ells, the organization will be holding three events this weekend to show their support.

First, there will be a benefit concert by singer/songwriter Jim Scott, Saturday at 8 p.m. in the NIU Music Building.

Admission to the concert is free but donations will go to benefit the organization, Ells said.

On Sunday, there will be a talk and fundraiser by U.S. Senator Paul Simon at 12:30 p.m. at the Farmer’s Inn in Kirkland and a rally at 1:30 at the King Memorial Commons.

According to Reich, admission to the fundraiser is $25. Anyone interested can contact 1-800-PRO-REICH.

Admission to the rally at the Commons is free and will also feature an appearance by Simon, he said.

Reich, a former NIU student, will be facing off against Republican incumbent Dennis Hastert in the Nov. 3 election for the 14th Congressional District seat.

The 14th Congressional District includes Kane, Kendall, Lee and DeKalb counties plus parts of DuPage and LaSalle counties, Reich said.

He said that his political concerns include a balanced budget, reduced national debt, jobs and unemployment, national health care and education.
